Dance Teams and Geary Dance Theater performance group

 

Dance Teams

Geary Dance Center’s Dance Teams and Performance Group were created for those dancers who are ready for the next level in in their dance training and committed to increasing their performance experience. Dance Teams will compete in local and Northern CA dance competitions in Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and/or Funk and the Performance Group will perform for community events and social service organizations.

Junior Dance Team: ages 8-11, must remain currently enrolled in the academic year in at least 1 class. Must commit to at least 2 competitions in the academic year.
Senior Dance Team: ages 12-18, must remain currently enrolled in the academic year in at least 1 class. Must commit to at least 2 competitions in the academic year.
Vertex Dance Team: ages 12-18 must remain currently enrolled in the academic year in at least 1 classes of level II or above, placement by audition or invitation only. Must commit to at least 2 competitions in the academic year.

Requirements: Junior and Senior Dance Team participants must be enrolled in at least one GDC class level I or higher in Jazz, Hip Hop or Contemporary and level II or higher in Ballet, and must be prepared for a higher degree of committment than recreational classes. Vertex Dance Team participants must be enrolled in at least one GDC class of level II or above in Jazz, Contemporary and level III or higher of Ballet and/or by invitation.

Enrollment in the above mentioned classes is mandatory to remain on the team. Attending practice is mandatory to remain on the team. Dance Teams require a high level of commitment and team members must budget their time and make the team a priority in their schedule. Participation in the team is by audition or invitation.

Team Fees: $25/class per session (number of weeks in the session determined each semester)
Additional costs will include competition registration fees, photo/video fees, costume and makeup fees, team uniform and choreography fee. Choreography for solos, duets and trios will be taught separately from group pieces in scheduled private lessons. Solos and duets are not required to participate on the team. Participation in the group choreography is required to be on the team and required for anyone who adds solos, duets and trios.

Dance Team members are automatically enrolled in the Geary Dance Theater performance group at no extra charge.

GEARY DANCE THEATER PERFORMANCE GROUP
Created for those dancers who want to proceed to the next level in their dance training but can’t commit to the training and time requirements of the competition team. This group will perform for schools, neighborhood associations and social service organizations.

Geary Dance Theater Practice Fees: $25/class per session (number of weeks in the session determined each semester)
Additional costs will include costume and makeup fees and any entrance or participation fees required by the venue. Participation in Geary Dance Theater is an excellent preparation to the dance teams.
